Lawrence Derrow

Lawrence Howard Derrow, 89, of New Market, VA passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Derrow was born on October 6, 1935, in Rockingham County, Virginia and was the son of the late Elmer Emanuel and Vera Myers Derrow. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Derrow, as well as four siblings, Carroll Derrow, Lorraine Gooden, Warren Derrow and Evelyn Meyer.
Lawrence worked for Rockingham Cooperative Farm Bureau in the dairy division. In June of 1965, Lawrence and several other Farm Bureau employees started Dairymen Specialty "The Business That Service Built" to sell and service DeLaval dairy equipment. Later, they were able to move to their current location on Route 42 in 1967. Not only was he a business owner, he touched many aspects of the business as a service technician, salesman, service manager, mentor, President and CEO of this company. During his retirement, he moved his energy into working on his farm, clearing land, making hay and raising cattle.
His favorite pastime was spent outside hunting, fishing, and horseback riding, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and telling stories to his grandchildren. Lawrence never met a stranger.
On December 17, 1954, he married the former Rachel V. Price, who survives.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by his children, Greg Derrow and wife, Lisa, Jeff Derrow and wife, Charity, Christine Derrow and husband, Chris Blair, and Richard Derrow and wife, Karmen.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Cally Lambert and wife, Carla, Trenton Lambert and wife, Juli, Preston Lambert and wife, Melissa, Bear Holland, Alli Hurst and husband, Dennit, Luke Michaels and wife, Annika, Emily Whistleman and husband, Jacob, Stormy Stoneburner and husband, Justin, Hunter Messick and husband, Kirk, Danielle Lambert, Jared Lambert and wife, Katie, Coty Derrow, Ty Derrow, and Lexi Derrow.
Along with twenty-eight great-grandchildren, as well as a special niece, Joy Bourke and husband, Mike.
Lawrence's family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU unit and staff at Sentara RMH Medical Center, especially Dr. Kristin Hom, as well as Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center staff.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Pastor Joseph Stoner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery, in Timberville.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the funeral home.
