Lawrence “Sonny” Gray passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 88. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Sue, whom he spoke of every day since her passing more than 20 years ago.
Sonny was born in Dayton, Ohio. He attended Holy Family and graduated from Chaminade High School. He built a long career as a pipefitter and was a proud member of the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 162.
Sonny enjoyed many things throughout his life, including the Grand Ole Opry, St. Petersburg, Florida, and traveling through the mountains to take in their beauty. Above all else, he deeply loved and missed his wife Sue, and he considered himself blessed simply to have shared his life with her.
Sonny is preceded in death by loving wife Sue Gray; sons Stephen Gray and Lawrence “Butch” Gray III; parents Marie Gray and Lawrence Gray Sr.; sisters Rosetta Lacey, Donna Green, and Sharon Dunlevy; and brothers-in-law Karl Green and Patrick Dunlevy.
Sonny is survived by his Children, Jeff (Jodi) Gray, Tim (Carol) Henry, Todd (Kim) Henry, and Greg (Sharon) Gray; Daughters-in-law, Lori Gray and Elizabeth Purkey; Grandchildren, Sharon (Tim) Boughan, Shannon (Tommy) Grisby, Curtis (Emily) Gray, Jeremy (Katie) Gray, Dustin Gray, Natalie (Rob) Sloan, Madison (Billy) Shancey, Mason Henry, and Lady Momo T. Cat; Great-grandchildren, Talon, Bentley, Lexus, TJ, Easton, Owen, Colton, Blake, Gunner, Corbin, Malcolm, and Fabio, and El Gato Naranja; Brother-in-law, Tom Lacey; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439.
