Lawrence Paul Gries, 64, of Tomball, TX, passed from this life on April 9, 2025. He was born on September 27, 1960 to Larry and Carolyn Gries in Detroit, MI.
Paul Gries, a devoted father, cherished grandfather, respected lawman, and beloved softball coach, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. His life was one marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family, friends, and community.
Born with a deep sense of duty and compassion, Paul proudly served Harris County as a sheriff for 31 years, upholding the law with integrity. His years in law enforcement were not just about protecting others-they were about upholding the law and protecting others in a courtroom. Off-duty, Paul could be found in a deer stand, playing guitar, or out on the softball field. He proudly dedicated countless hours coaching generations of young athletes, but his favorite athletes, by far, were his children.
He is survived by his wife, Karen DeCorte Gries; his children, Valerie Fajotina, Fabian Gries, and Bianca Ludwig, stepson, Conner DeCorte Martin; grand children, Elena Cortes, Koa Fajotina, Makana Fajotina and Ezequiel Gries. Sons-in-law Julius Fajotina, Nicholas Ludwig and daughter-in-law Marilyn Gries.
His family welcomes visitors to his viewing at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W Main St, Tomball, TX 77375 on Tuesday, April 15th from 5:00 pm through 8:00 pm. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held Wednesday, April 16th, 11:00 am at Salem Lutheran Church, 22601 Lutheran Church Road, Tomball, TX. 77377. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Klein Memorial Park cemetery 32539 SH 249, Pinehurst, TX, 77362.
