Lawrence "Larry" Van Guilder, age 80, passed away on May 20, 2025, at Barnes Care Assisted Living in Esko, Minnesota. He was born on November 23, 1944, to Lawrence and Gertrude (Petersen) Van Guilder in Carlton, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Duquette and Kerrick, Minnesota. During his childhood years, Larry enjoyed hunting. Larry graduated from Askov High School and went on to reside in Nickerson for the majority of his adult life. Larry served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He also worked as a pipe fitter in the Boilermakers Union. In his spare time, he loved rebuilding and restoring antique tractors, spending time with his dog, Sweet Pea, and collecting various guns.
Larry is remembered by his sister, Judy (Vern) Hansvick; nieces, Kelly Bahen, Molly Tweten, Terri Van Guilder, Maggie Hansvick; nephews, Scott McCuskey, Seth Hansvick, and Mark Van Guilder; and several other relatives. Larry was joined in rest by his nephew, Ryan McCuskey on May 27, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura McCuskey; and brother, Jerry Van Guilder.
A memorial service in honor of Larry will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until the ceremony. Military honors will follow. Inurnment at the Nickerson Cemetery will be held at a later date.
