Lawrence Healey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Justen Funeral Home & Crematory - McHenry on Feb. 2, 2025.
Lawrence William Healey, a cherished patriarch and friend, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 91 in McHenry, Illinois. Born on March 7, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, lived a full life marked by love, adventure, and unwavering spirit.
Lawrence's early years were spent in the heartland of Minnesota, but he found his lifelong home in Illinois. He proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army from 1953 until 1961, a time that helped shape the resilient and spirited man he would become. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a heavy equipment operator with Lindahl, where he was a dedicated member of the local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) for over 40 years.
In 1958, Lawrence married the love of his life, Norene Johnston, in a beautiful ceremony at St. Anne's in Spring Valley, Illinois. Their union was blessed with two children, a loving daughter Kathleen, and a brave son, Lance Corporal William Healey, who preceded him in death. Larry's heart was always full of love for his family, which grew to include his son-in-law David Kuczwara, and his adored grandchildren, Patrick and Maegan Kuczwara, who brought him immense joy.
Lawrence's sister, Judy Gibbons, his nieces and nephews, and countless friends will fondly remember his presence in their lives. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Norene, his parents, Lawrence and Lola Healey, his brother Michael Healey, and his sister Joan Witry.
A man of many interests, Lawrence's adventurous spirit found him cruising through the Panama Canal and enjoying many winters in Florida, where he indulged in his love for golf. Back in Illinois, he could often be found on his boat, the Recon, navigating the waters of Lake Michigan, whether fishing or simply cruising. A familiar face at Port Washington Yacht Club, he was known for his seafaring tales and camaraderie.
Lawrence's commitment to his community was evident in his role as a founding member of the Spruce Street Athletic Club. He believed in the value of sports and recreation, and this was reflected in his unwavering support for his grandchildren. Whether it was cheering on Patrick's sports endeavors or being captivated by Maegan's ballet performances, he was their most enthusiastic fan.
In retirement, Lawrence enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching sports from his recliner, a testament to his lifelong love for the game, no matter the season or sport.
Those who knew Lawrence will remember him as a loving family man, always ready for a new adventure, and spirited in every endeavor he undertook. His laughter, wisdom, and kind-hearted nature have left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
Lawrence William Healey's life will be celebrated by all who knew him as a story of dedication, love, and joy. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations, and his memory will be treasured forever. Lawrence's journey through life was one of purpose and passion, and though he has set sail on his final voyage, the wake of his life's voyage will be felt for years to come.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles Miller Road, McHenry, IL. from 09:00 am-11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Interment at 1:30 pm at All Saints Cemetery.
