On May 29, 2025, a family lost a truly unique man, Lawrence “Larry” Martin Carlson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the homestead of Dennis Jipson: 6837 550th Street, Dumont, MN. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family at the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery. Lunch will be served immediately following the service at the Graceville Community Building. Family will join in after the burial service.
Lawrence Martin Carlson was born on January 11, 1954, in Graceville, MN, to Martin and Delores (Sullivan) Carlson, he was baptized and confirmed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. Larry attended Graceville High School and graduated with the Class of 1972.
Larry was adventurous and funny, albeit at times, somber, contemplating sorrows and losses. He was a man of many talents, working first with his family at Carlson Oil Co, and later becoming a craftsman, builder, bartender, manager, and more.
His most treasured motorcycle rides began and ended with his best friend Dennis, who he considered a brother. Music was his steadfast companion, especially the blues. Skydiving gave him a thrill, with the rush of wind against his face. There were views to behold and boundaries to conquer. He camped under the stars, found solace by the water, warmth from campfires, and preferred a simple lifestyle.
Respectful of others, he developed lasting relationships with a chosen few, holding the most cherished place in his heart for his daughter, Samantha, who he had later in life with Lisa.
At his work and in his life, Larry gave respite to others. His compassion, unconditional love, and comic relief at just the right time will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know and love him.
Larry’s survivors include his daughter, Samantha Tosse of Clinton, MN; siblings: Barb (Rick) Beyer of Alexandria, MN; Mary Jo Stueve (Brian Shishnia) of Aberdeen, SD; Sally (Kevin) Corbett of Ottertail, MN; Carol (Chuck) Bauer of Graceville, MN; Bonnie (Steve) Maas of Clinton, MN; and Dennis (Dee) Jipson of Dumont, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father: Delores & Marshall Miller; father and step-mother: Martin “Punk” & “Ginger” Carlson; brothers: Dale, Mark, and Bruce; and one sister, Cathy Gronfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you bring a favorite memory or song of Larry’s to share. They also welcome all who shared Larry’s love for motorcycles to ride their bikes to his services.
