Lawrence “Larry” Robert Sorenson, age 82 years and 363 days of Menahga, MN, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Covered Bridge Assisted Living Center in Holdingford, MN.
Larry was born on August 17, 1942, at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, MN, to Ralph and Eleanor (Lund) Sorenson. He was the oldest of five children. His parents owned a dairy farm, and he helped with field work and the milking on the farm as a child. Larry was an easy-going child. He attended school in Menahga, MN. On July 17, 1961, he married Sharon Karjala. To this marriage two daughters were born, Charilyn and Robin. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in the cities, and he worked at a sanitation company. (It is funny that he wanted to start a company in Menahga hauling garbage but was told that no one around here would pay to get their garbage hauled). He returned with his family to Menahga and bought a home a few miles from his parents’ farm.
Larry followed in his dad’s footsteps and became a licensed electrician and started his own business Sorenson Electric. He also was a semi driver and a Police Officer in Menahga. Larry bought the family home when his parents moved to town. After buying the family home the family would move from one home to the next and remodel the homes as needed. He prided himself always helping someone that needed a place to stay.
He taught the girls how to ride horses, learned a lot about remodeling, and he taught his daughter Charilyn how to drive a Semi. Her and her friends would drive the semi up and down the driveway. Larry likes to play whist, talk on the CB radio, his handle was Silver Fox, snowmobile, visiting the neighbors, and going to rodeos. He moved to Hewitt, MN, where he owned a home. After he broke his hip he moved in with his sister, Lola and her son Jesse. They took care of him. When more care was needed he moved to Covered Bridge Assisted Living in Holdingford, MN. His care givers and the other residents enjoyed the time he spent there until his passing.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Charilyn Knosalla; five grandchildren, Jessica (Rich) Laundreaux, Nicholas Knosalla, Ryan Berttunen, Mitchell Knosalla, and Nicole Berttunen; six great-grandchildren, Braden, Avery, Easton, Oaklynn, Alexander, and Kinsley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph, and Eleanor; daughter, Robin Hendrickson; and grandson, Dustin Berttunen.
