Lawrence (Larry) K. Springer, 75, of
Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Born on Tuesday, May 17, 1949, in
Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Lawrence M. Springer and Marlowe Ziegler Springer.
Larry graduated from South Hagerstown High School, class of 1967, and completed his Bachelor of Art in elementary education at Shepherd University, 1971.
A loving and warm-hearted soul, Larry had a selfless nature and was always willing to help others, especially his family. He was a devoted husband of 52 years to the love of his life, Mary Ann Springer, and had a deep and enduring bond with his daughter, Nicole Pellegrino, and her husband, Stephen. His greatest pride was in his grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, and Ellie.
He shared a lifelong passion for movies and movie memorabilia, a love he inherited from his own father, and enjoyed showing films to friends, family and neighbors. His grandchildren fondly called him "Poppy Wilbur," and they were the light of his life, as he was of theirs. Known for his sense of humor, he loved bringing smiles to those around him.
Larry loved the beach, especially South Jersey, where he enjoyed everything from the boardwalk to ocean views to riding his bike along the shore, often with one of his beloved dogs riding in the basket. He also loved going out to eat and sharing meals with his family, and his adventurous spirit led him on countless road-trips with many detours along the way.
Larry never met a stranger, working with people was something he genuinely loved. His outgoing nature made everyone feel like an old friend, and he embraced life with a sense of humor and joy, never taking things too seriously. He lived life to its fullest, finding fun in all things and spreading happiness to others.
In his youth, Larry was a volunteer firefighter with Engine 5 at the South Hagerstown Volunteer Fire Company. He later worked as a media specialist at the Washington County Board of Education, followed by a similar position in the Western Maryland Public Library System. In more recent years, Larry worked at the front desk at the Hagerstown Hampton Inn, where he cheerfully interacted with guests and staff alike, bringing his warmth and kindness to everyone he met.
