Lawrence Twitty was born on February 27, 1941, on a blistering cold day in Dayton, Ohio. He was born to James and Viola Sewell Twitty as the third of six children born to this union. Lawrence's mother died at a young age of tuberculosis and he spent his young years in an orphanage.
Lawrence graduated high school in Dayton where he played football. After high school, Lawrence enlisted into the United States Navy and served four years before an honorable discharge. After discharge, Lawrence went on to his greatest achievement in life, the acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Lawrence was a member of the Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith ("Brentnell") where he met his soon-to-be life partner, Sarah Venson.
They wed on August 3, 1974, in Columbus, Ohio. Lawrence, a loyal and trustworthy employee, worked at White Westinghouse and AC Humko. We do not recall Dad missing one day of work – even that one day in the 1980s when in the early morning the ambulance was called because he was doubled over in pain from abdominal pains. After the ambulance responded, he went to work.
Lawrence and Sarah had three children. The first, Stacia Twitty (Jones), was born on July 19, 1975. Importantly, that year nearly saw the end of their growing family when Lawrence was hospitalized for bleeding abdominal ulcers. He nearly lost his life, but God had other plans. Two years later, on November 30, 1977, Lawrence Twitty, II ("Larry") was born, and their third, Saniosa Twitty (Scott), on July 2, 1982.
Lawrence was a long-time member of Rhema Chirstian Center and served in the parking lot and video ministries. Prior to Rhema, Lawrence worked with Wednesday Night Children's Bible Hour at Brentnell church. Since Covid, Lawrence participated in leading and attending weekly family Bible Study.
Lawrence has been known for many things throughout his life, including fix-it man, builder, encourager, jokester, loyal and extremely dependable, a devoted husband, a doting dad, and most importantly, a man of God. One of his favorite hobbies was photography. He was a member of the African American Photographers of North America (AAPNA) and the Photo Focus Group of Arlington.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, Ronald Twitty, LaVelle Twitty, Franklin Delanor (Butch) Twitty, Beverly Johnson-Cooke, and Gail Twitty. He is survived by wife Sarah Twitty; children Stacia (Curtis), Larry (Mary), and Saniosa (Anothny); grandchildren, Christian and Brianna Jones, Trey Isaiah, Jevon Issac and Lawrence (LT) III Twitty, and Imani, Angelia, and Cheyenne Scott; and great grandchildren Ayden Scott and Lela Battle. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
