Lawrence Matthew "Big Matt" Williamson, age 41, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026 alongside the love of his life, his wife Britney, while on a weekend getaway to his personal view of paradise, The Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge Tennessee.
Matt is survived by his wife, Britney Williamson; their sons, Airman First Class Nick Williamson and Cope Church; daughter, Kyleigh Church; parents, Mike and Judy Williamson; sisters, Jana (Ray) Hannah and Breanna (Zach) Cleckler; brother Brandon (Sonya) Williamson; nieces, Karsyn (Christian) Key and Savana Elkins; great niece, Everleigh Shaff; great nephews, Paxton Key, Braylon Key, Brixton Elkins, and Cayson Williamson; and Father-in-Law, Jerry "Poppy" Whittle.
Matt was born Oct 22, 1984, in
Ragland, AL to loving parents Mike and Judy
Williamson. He was a lifelong resident of Ragland and graduated from Ragland High School where he excelled at playing football, garnishing numerous awards to include All County and All Region. After High School, Matt became a father to Nick, Kyleigh, and Cope and husband to Britney Williamson. Matt would start his day every morning by making sure he told Britney "Good morning beautiful", never missing the opportunity to let her know how much he adored and loved her. He ultimately landed his dream job at National Cement Co. where he tirelessly worked any chance he got, often saying "if you don't make it someone else will", but in truth he didn't work for himself. Matt did all he could do to not only ensure his family was taken care of, but also to be able to meet the needs of others he met along the way. Matt lived his life putting others first in both actions and words, a simple phone call would get you some of the best advice you could ask for and if you ever asked for it he was always ready to give the shirt off of his back. His proudest moment wasn't even his own, it was the joy of watching his son Nick graduate from Air Force boot camp. He could talk for hours on the adventures he wanted to see Nick go on in his career and spoke constantly with excitement for the future on what Kyleigh and Cope would accomplish. Matt later attended Fairview Baptist Church with his family where he learned to love and worship the Lord. That's when he would offer the best advice, he would simply say "I'm saving a seat for you Sunday, you better be there".
The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
