Martha Gail Hathcox, 85, of Ragland, AL passed away peacefully on Friday December 6, 2024. She was surrounded by family as she closed her eyes here on earth and opened them in heaven.
Martha was born August 1, 1939 to Leales and Devora Brittain. She was a 1957 graduate of Ragland High School and was a lifelong supporter of Ragland athletics. Martha was in banking for the majority of her life starting her career at People's Bank and retiring from Metro Bank in Ragland. She was a friendly face to all that came through to do business. Martha loved traveling having visited much of the United States over the course of her travels. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching any game on TV. Martha loved music of all kinds, but you could find her on any given day listening to one of her favorites, Elvis Presley or Willie Nelson. She was a wonderful friend, who loved to go shopping or out for a good meal.
Above all, Martha loved her family. Martha was married to the love of her life, Walter Neal, for over 40 years until his passing in 1997. Martha had two sons, Barry and Britt. She was a loving mother who doted on her sons. She was so proud of her two boys and never gave up a chance to talk about them to anyone willing to listen. Martha had five grandchildren who were her world. She was an ever present grandmother, attending every important event throughout her grandchildren's' lives. She poured her knowledge and strength into her grandchildren and they all adored their Mawmaw. Martha had four great grandchildren and she would light up whenever she spent time with them. Martha loved her family well and never missed a chance to tell them how much she loved them.
Martha is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Neal Hathcox and her sister, Peggy Richards.
Martha is survived by her two loving sons, Barry (Renee) Hathcox and Britt Hathcox; her five grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Van Zee, Hillary (Adam) Hamilton, Kayla Hathcox, Tanner (Brittney) Hathcox, and Marlee (Nick) Bowman; her four great grandchildren, Wilder Van Zee, Sylvie Van Zee, Maggie James Hathcox, and Walter Hamilton; and her three nieces, Tamra Alfano, Theresa McKibbon, and Dana Siegert.
The family will accept visitors at Usrey Funeral Home on Sunday, December 8th from 1:00-3:00 PM with a funeral service directly following visitation. The funeral procession will end at Providence Baptist Church where Martha will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Pallbearers will be Nick Bowman, Adam Hamilton, Tanner Hathcox, Britt Hathcox, Jimmy Higginbotham, and Ryan Van Zee.
