Raleigh, NC: Mr. Layton Bruce Massengill, age 84, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson, NC.  Rev. Jarret Hamilton will officiate. Burial will follow in Stones Creek Advent Christian Church Cemetery, Benson, NC.

Mr. Massengill was born on November 28, 1939 in Johnston County, NC to the late Charlie B. and Katie Barefoot Massengill. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rev. Jimmy Carroll.  Mr. Massengill was a retired truck driver with the United States Postal Service, and was a US Navy Veteran.  He attended Midway Baptist Church for years, and then Journey Church, where he greeted at the door for over 15 years. He made sure that each person felt special, welcomed, and loved, and his service in that capacity became the joy of his life.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Glenda Faye McLamb Massengill, daughters, Kimberly M. Ivey and husband, Jerry, and Beverly Carroll; grandchildren, Amanda Ivey, Austin Carroll, and Morgan Ivey; sister, Floy Allen; several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 1:45PM-2:45PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC, and other times at the home. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Generation Church PO Box 936, Clayton, NC 27527 or to Stones Creek Advent Christian Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mike Adams 1062-B Adams Road, Benson, NC 27504.
