Lazaro "Tony" Antonio de la Torre, passed away peacefully in his home on Nov 5, 2024, in Pembroke Pines, Florida, at the age of 78.
Tony is survived by his children, Derek and Sabrina (her husband, Jeremy), his grandchildren, Nora and Stella, his ex-wife and good friend, Elise, and his sister, Magaly Acosta. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ernestina Acosta of Perrine, Florida, his father, Jose de la Torre of Matanzas, Cuba, and his stepfather, Lino Acosta of Perrine, Florida.
Tony was born on December 17th, 1945, in Matanzas, Cuba to Ernestina and Jose. At the age of 15, with some help from his father, Tony managed to find a small boat and escape Cuba's political and economic turmoil to search for a better life for his family. By working multiple jobs, day and night, Tony attained the means to bring his family into the United States. Tony then re-settled in Miami and began working for Balogh Jewelers as a fine jewelry and antique salesman.
In 1984, Tony married Elise, who continued to be a dear friend throughout Tony's life. During their marriage, the couple welcomed two children into their lives. His children remember him as a kind, loving, and respectful father who encouraged them to follow their hearts.
Tony was a generous and fun individual who enjoyed music, dance, and art. He was passionate about life and loved spending time with his family and friends.
We are thankful that Tony was able to spend his last weeks at home, peacefully, with his family.
A Memorial Service to honor and remember Tony will be held on December 1st, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Landmark Funeral Home.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tony's life.
