Leah Whitehead Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Mar. 29, 2026.
Leah E. Whitehead, 55, of Brentwood, NH, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her family on March 26, 2026.

Born on February 11, 1971 Leah Floyd exploded into the world with a strong personality and beautiful features. From the start, Leah exuded sunshine! Known for listening to Englebert Humperdinck Christmas music in July as a child, life was always better with Leah at your side. Leah graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1989 and studied Early Childhood Education at Salem State University. Leah worked in the banking industry for many years and most recently at Seacoast Soups. One of many favorite Leah-quotes was "a new friend is only a smile away", and this epitomized Leah's personality.

Her energy filled rooms, and her stories made people cry with laughter. She took her children to every Smithsonian and instilled a life long passion of literature and art in them. She travelled to London, Paris, and all over America, finding new and exciting things to do in every new place. She read avidly and was a lifelong scholar, always taking new classes and inspiring other women in her life to do the same. She was a Girlscout mom who came to all the meetings and went on so many trips with her troop where they created lifelong memories together. Her work ethic was unmatched. She was the smartest person in any room with the most experience. She could work any job and find a real friend in coworkers and customers. She loved to work, and took so much pride in what she did.

People saw the brightness in her so thoroughly and commented on her beauty so often. So many people have reached out with stories about her and how much joy she brought to their everyday lives. GirlScout mom, Crew mom, Stepmom, you name it. Leah cared deeply for those around her, but was especially connected to her pets and the animals she loved. She cared so deeply for the hippo Fiona and the giraffe April when they were having babies, and live-streamed them every day at the zoo. She loved her dogs Molly and Ginger and the uncountable amount of cats in her life. She was strong in ways people would have never known because of her grace. She was great in ways that could never be summed in a few paragraphs. She was a caring mother, friend and sister. Loving mother to Maggie, Alex and Betsy Coughlin. Loving sister to her siblings, Victoria Callahan, Veronica Moore, John and Andrea Floyd, and Julie Dawes. Her many nieces and nephews loved her deeply. Beloved by her husband Art Whitehead and four step-sons, Aiden, Emerson, Hunter and Noah.

The family would like to thank the team at Lahey Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

Since the moment you walked up to me our sophomore year in high school in 1986 asking me if we could be friends, you have been one of my dearest friends ever since. I still can´t believe you were taken so soon, but pray that you are resting in eternal peace. I love you and will miss you always. Until we meet again.

My deepest condolences to Leah´s family. Your tribute to her is truly beautiful and captures exactly who she was.

I first met Leah years ago while we were both working at Target-two moms with young kids, figuring out life as newly single parents. We later reconnected when our girls were in elementary school, and it felt like no time had passed. She made being her friend so easy-always approachable, fun, and full of a genuine kindness that you don´t often find.

Maggie, Alex, Betsy, and the entire family-I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your wonderful mom. She will be deeply missed. Liza Cameron
