Leatrice Alice Niemann

Leatrice Alice Niemann, 97, of Ellington, beloved wife of the late William R. Niemann passed away, Monday, April 21, 2025 at Vernon Manor. She was born October 27th 1927 in Stafford, CT the daughter of Tilman and Alice (Bourque) Bastarache. Leatrice was a proud wife and mother and helped her husband on the family dairy farm by doing bookkeeping and corn harvesting. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. She created many flower beds outside of the family home and tended them with extrodinary attention. Leatrice was a Boston Bruins and Hartford Whalers fan and a die hard UCONN Women's basketball fan. She enjoyed watching birds at her feeders making jigsaw puzzles, and doing crosswords. Leatrice had deep love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children; William R. Niemann, Jr., Gloria Moeller and her husband Robert, John Niemann, Sr, Linda Hanifin, Beverly Niemann and Winifred Hart and her husband Ernest; her grandchildren; Bill and his wife Candie, Paul and his wife Erika, John and his wife Keri, Eric and his wife Jaime, Robert and his wife Michelle, Sharlene, Meghan and her husband John, Kaylee, Andrew and his fiance Megan and Danielle and her fiance Paul; her great grandchildren; Brody, Branson, Brock, Brynn, Noah, Liana, Lucia, Robert, Ryan and Mason, Carter, Gavin; her Brothers Laurie Bastarache and his wife Elaine, Roger Bastarache; sisters, Irma and Benny Krasinski, Frances Fortini, Brothers in law, Richard Hutton, Clifford and Eileen Niemann, Sisters in law Nancy and Milford Charette and Eleanor Niemann and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Hutton, Sisters and Brothers in law Shirley and Edward Wandzy, Phyllis and Matthew Kadelski, Kenneth Niemann, Russell and Mary Niemann, and Norman Fortini. The family would like to thank Annmarie Afflick and Linda Varno for their dedicated loving care provided in her home and the caring staff at Vernon Manor. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 2 to 4 PM with a memorial service following at 4 PM on Sunday, April 27th at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT.
