Mr. Lee Edward Allyn, age 81, a well-known resident of French Asylum, Bradford County, PA, nicknamed “Mayor of Frenchtown” passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2025, at the Robert Packer Hospital with his wife and three children at his side.
Lee was born on August 12, 1943, at the old Mills Hospital in Towanda, PA, the middle child of five children of the late Clifford Lee and Eva Louise Howland Allyn. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School a member of the class of 1961. He married the former Nancy Kissell of French Asylum on May 2, 1964, in the French Asylum United Methodist Church. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this May.
Lee went on to work at GTE Sylvania, now known as GTP and retired after 35 years in 2000. He was a member of the Sylvania Quarter Century Club, where for many years he organized and hosted the Quarter Century Club Annual Dinner. After retirement he served as an Asylum Township Supervisor, a position he held for 18 years until 2021.
Lee was an active member of the French Asylum United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and chairman of the trustees. He was also a trustee of the Cemetery Association. Most Sundays he could be found ushering the collection plate down the aisle and always made sure the parking lot was plowed during the winter over the last 40 + years.
Lee’s greatest joy was farming and spending his time on La Nanc Acres which he diligently cared for alongside his wife, Nancy, for the last 60 plus years. He took great pride in his home and farm and enjoyed sharing it with his family and friends, whether around the kitchen table or on the front porch. For many years he raised beef cows and was known for his Red Angus cattle. Out of his many titles, his favorite was hog farmer. Throughout the county he was well-known and respected for his pig farming. For over 50 years he raised pigs. He supplied many 4-H children with pigs and sold several butcher hogs to help fill many freezers with his farm-raised pork. Every spring and summer, he looked forward to sitting aboard his old tractor mowing and plowing fields.
He enjoyed going out to eat and good conversation with his friends and even strangers. Though he lived in French Asylum for over 60 years, Herrickville still held a special place in his heart, and he always enjoyed going back to his roots to visit. For many years he enjoyed attending family reunions and later in life served as president of the Allyn Family Reunion Committee.
