Lee Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith & Smith Funeral Home - Lexington on Jan. 2, 2026.
Lee Thomas Baker, Sr., age 91, passed away peacefully at home in Lexington, Kentucky, on December 27, 2025. Born on August 5, 1934, in Huntsville, Alabama, Lee was the beloved son of Lillie Mae and Lee Baker.

Lee resided primarily in Louisville, Kentucky, where he built a lasting legacy of service, hard work, faith, integrity, and devotion to family. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. His 23 years of military service allowed him to travel the world, an experience he valued deeply, while serving his country with distinction.

Following his military career, Lee continued his professional life with Mutual of Omaha, where he retired as a District Sales Manager. Known for being forthright, honest, intelligent, and well-spoken, he was a man others could always rely on. He was level-headed, deeply thoughtful, and believed strongly in staying informed, often spending hours watching the news to keep up with current events and global affairs.

Lee, known as 'Daddy' by his devoted children, was a strong, hardworking man who loved his family deeply. He was a dedicated father and devoted husband who stood steadfast in his faith in God and was a guiding presence to many. In his free time, he loved playing golf, enjoyed watching football and horse racing, and especially looked forward to the Kentucky Derby every year! Above all, he cherished time spent with loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae and Lee Baker; his sister, Amanda Goodwin; his wife, Margaret Ann Baker; his ex-wife, Georgia Florence Mosley-Baker; his sons, Paul and Raymond Savoris; his daughter, Denise; and his close friend and brother-in-law, Junie.

Lee leaves to cherish his memory his children: Nadine, Lee (Jr.), Darlene, and Angelene (Bee); His grandchildren: Tyrone (Rashona), Anthony (Bhavika), Jamar (Alexis), Bridgette, Angelene (a.k.a Baby Angie), and Timothy; his eight great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Gabriel, Allura, Amiya, Avaya, C.J., Brody, and Titan; his four nieces and nephews: Lisa Wright, Mae-Mae, Devon, and Lamont Goodwin; his best friend Al Strange and a host of other loving relatives and friends. ,

As e'er God with His image blessed:

The friend of man, the friend of truth;

The friend of age, and guide of youth:

Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,

Few heads with knowledge so inform'd:

If there's another world, he lives in bliss;

He made the very best of all of this.
