Lee Mathis

We are saddened by the passing of Lee Mathis, who entered into his eternal heavenly home on Thursday, July 3, 2025. We give thanks for the 74 years of his life.
Lee was born March 25, 1949, in Jackson County, NC, and grew up in the Addie Community in Sylva, NC. He was the son of the late Rev. Dillard Andy Mathis and the late Minnie Mills Mathis. Lee was an entrepreneur doing everything from auto repair, electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, and even owning a BP gas station. He also worked at building dams and in a factory. He loved his family deeply, and the cherished memories they shared will remain in their hearts forever.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Maybelle Stephens of Sylva, and his brothers, Cecil Mathis of Canton and Frank Mathis of Sylva.
He is survived by his sons, Jody Mathis of Canton, David Mathis of Sylva, and Anthony Franklin of Waynesville; daughters, Rebecca Mathis and Kristy Mathis both of Sylva; sister, Norma Jean Grooms of Raleigh, NC, and five grandchildren.
A service of remembrance to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Mathis will be held at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Rev. Eddie Stillwell will be officiating.
