Lee Harry Monge was born to Gorden and Frances (Toohey) Monge on March 24, 1939, in Fargo, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1957 and went on to join the Army Reserve, where he was honorably discharged in 1964.
Lee's humor and good nature gave him the ability to get along with everyone he met, and that gift carried over into his professional life as well. He was a lifelong salesman working many years with companies such as McKone Cigar, American Tobacco, D & D Instruments, and Johnson Wax.
Lee was an avid sports lover and was always ready to discuss and recap a game. He followed the Minnesota Twins, FM RedHawks, and Green Bay Packers, and he loved the ND Class B basketball tournaments. Lee also was very proud of playing in the World Slow-Pitch Championship Tournament in 1959. As an uncle, Lee was always present for his nieces' and nephews' activities and supporting them in their interests. It was always special to see Uncle Lee in the stands or audience.
Lee was happiest when he was in nature and with "his people", whether it was hunting, fishing, or enjoying time at the lake. Besides his family, "his people" were his salmon fishing buddies (he was looking forward to going on this trip in June), his morning coffee friends at Duffy's, his hunting family and landowners, and the special neighbors and friends who looked after him and kept him stocked with sweets and fresh fish.
While a tough, stubborn North Dakotan, he was very caring and giving and lived his life as he chose, living it to the fullest. His huffing, gruffness, and head shakes were infamous, and always brought a smile to everyone when he disagreed and had something to say (which was often). You always knew where you stood with him. He was an original and will be missed dearly.
Lee H. Monge, 84, of Fargo, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 8, 2023, in his home.
Lee is leaving behind his nephews, Steven (Mary) Monge, Inver Grove Heights, MN, David Monge, Fargo, ND; his nieces Debra (Mark) Higgins, De Pere, WI, Karn (Pat) Jilek, Rio Rancho, NM, Beth Dilbeck (Scott Bresson), Fargo, ND, and Lora (Kevin) Elfstrum, Fargo, ND; his sisters-in-law Audrey Monge, Green Bay, WI and Linda Monge, Fargo, ND, many beloved grand nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was reunited with those that have gone before him, including his parents and three brothers, Larry, Lynn, and Wayne - what a reunion that must have been!
