Lee-Peter Brummel, surrounded by loved ones, passed peacefully on April 14th, 2025 at the age of 68. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Oct 10, 1956 to Heinz and Marianne Brummel.
A modern-day St. Francis of Assisi (patron saint of all "Creatures Great and Small") Lee-Peter's life was that of simplicity, humility and compassion. He was patient, generous and had a magnetic personality. He loved people, animals, music and art. Talented at guitar, he often played his favorite song - Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." From the same bedroom window sill he would nurture baby robins as a child, he would also escape during his teen years, displaying the rebellious, experimental side that sometimes got him into trouble. He was beset in his late teens by sudden mental illness. Thus, Lee-Peter's life became more complex and for those who loved him. Independent travels took him to Louisiana, Tennessee, and Germany, until his return to the Green Bay area.
Lee-Peter's home for the last 30 years was Brotoloc Health Care Services in Hortonville, Wisconsin. The incredible people at Brotoloc - housemates, counselors, & caregivers - became his community, his family. After years of stress and worry, Peter was no longer homeless but finally settled, safe and sound. We felt at peace knowing he was in such good, loving hands, surrounded and embraced by his new family. Known there as "Lee", keeping him fully clothed was now our only challenge, because of his generous heart, he typically gifted to others the clothes on his back! Extremely gifted, art was his means of expressing his soul and feelings, his mission. It sparked the many lights within him. Supplied with paper, pens and paint by his sister, he was a literal art machine, producing thousands of abstract drawings often accompanied with "words of wisdom." He mailed them off and offered them freely to all he met. These abstract drawings were his means of communicating to the world saying "see me - hear me." They expressed his deep faith and pain. This "Gentle Giant" of a man, with the heart and strength of a lion, the spirit of a saint and the soul of a fine artist, persisted and thrived despite the odds. He is in heaven with his guitar now!
A simple memorial celebration was already held with his inner circle, those at Brotoloc. The Brummel's love and thank You! Another small Memorial will be held there this Summer. More Drawings and Brats for all!
Gratitude to Thedacare Cardiovascular and Mosaic Family Health of
Appleton, Wisconsin. They took extraordinary care of Lee-Peter in his years and final days. All doctors and caregivers were acknowledged and thanked with his typical "God Luvs Ya" upon leaving.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lee-Peter is survived by siblings Heinz, Claudia, Marc and spouse Paula, as well as his many beloved nephews and nieces which include Oskar, Oliver, Bear, Ava, Owen and Celia. The Brummel family will unite this summer for a private burial next to our parents, and then a separate "Celebration of Life" at the favorite family place.
Arrangements are being handled by Valley Funeral Home of
