Lee Winston Simons, Jr., 71, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 2, 1953, in Lorain, Lee lived his entire life in the community that he held so dear.
A 1972 graduate of Admiral King High School, Lee devoted much of his life to serving his family, friends, and community. He worked for 42 years at US Steel, where he made a lasting impact as the Regional Contract Coordinator for the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. In addition to this, Lee led Central Maintenance for Local 1104 and served as a Trustee for 15 years, earning the respect of all who worked alongside him.
Lee was known for his generosity, selflessness, and commitment to helping others. Whether it was fixing something for a neighbor or lending a hand to a friend in need, Lee was always there. His talent as a handyman earned him the love and gratitude of many.
A devoted member of St. Lad's Club, Lee spent much of his free time there, fostering deep connections with his friends and community. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and VFW. Over the past 27 years, Lee enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his beloved wife, where they made cherished memories as snowbirds.
Some of Lee's greatest memories were from hunting, especially with his dad. In his younger years, he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying the freedom of the open road until he could no longer ride. His passions for life and helping others will forever be remembered.
Lee is survived by his loving family, who will miss him dearly. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years and high school sweetheart, Elizabeth A. (nee Rogala); sons, Mark (Connie), of Sheffield Lake & Jeff (Despina), of Elyria; 7 grandkids, including Jay who was his best friend for many years; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Judy (Dave) Krugman, of Sheffield Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee W. Simons, Sr. & Della S. (nee Wilfong) Simons and his brother, Keith Simons, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral service will be on Friday, at 10:30 am, also at the funeral center. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
