Lee O. Sluder passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was 92 years old.
Lee was born on April 5, 1932, in Sullivan County, Indiana. He was the son of Charles and Ada (Reynolds) Sluder. He attended school in Turman Township, Graysville, Indiana, graduating high school in 1950. Later he studied at Terre Haute Commercial College.
Lee served active duty in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, from March 1951 until November 1953.
Lee married Nina Rose Drake on August 18, 1951, and they delighted in their lives together for 61 years until Nina's passing in 2012. Together they raised two daughters, Sheryl and Brenda, and spent much of their time enjoying them and their grandchildren. Lee and Nina also had 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Although their family was spread out geographically, Lee and Nina loved to travel and visit with them all.
Lee spent 35 years working for American Electric Power beginning in 1957 on the construction of the Breed Power Plant in Fairbanks, Indiana. In 1960 he joined the newly formed sales department and held various positions working out of the Hartford City, Indiana, office. Lee was active with 4-H clubs in Blackford County. He also served on the State of Indiana 4-H Electric Committee and the State Farm Electrification Council for the last five years of his career. He retired at the age of 60. He was fond of saying that he had enjoyed all of his positions with AEP and looked forward to going to work every day. Certainly, Lee's positive attitude and sunny disposition endeared him to everyone who knew him.
Lee was a member of the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church in Montpelier, Indiana, and the First Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Prairie Creek, Indiana. He was a 70-year member of the American Legion, most recently Post 104 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ada Sluder, his two brothers, Donell Dean Sluder and Max Sluder, his beloved wife, Nina, and his daughter, Sheryl Sluder Rogers.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Sluder Frazier (husband, John Mark) and their children, Mark Ryan Frazier (wife, Sarah), Lauren Frazier Salas and Christopher Evan Frazier (wife, Megan).
Lee is also survived by Sheryl's children - Julia Rogers, Aaron Rogers (wife, Kristen), Rachel Rogers J and James Rogers. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, family and friends. Lee is also survived by his life partner, Patricia Tarrh, with whom he enjoyed every day for the past 12 years. He often told people that he had lived a beautiful life and he was thankful to God for all of it.
Please join family friends as they celebrate the life of Lee Sluder on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM with funeral service following at 11:00 AM at DeBaun Funeral Home 85 E Springhill Dr. Terre Haute, IN 47802.
