Lela Ruth Labhart, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Louisville, KY, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on August 22, 1933, in Rockport, IN, Lela's life was a testament to love, dedication, and creativity.

Lela was a proud graduate of Dale High School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with ambition and achievements. She furthered her education by attending business school, and dedicated numerous years to serving her community as a clerk for the census bureau. Her professional journey was marked by the same intelligence and hardworking spirit that she brought to all aspects of her life.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Lela appreciated her many talents. She was an extraordinary baker, known for creating the best pies and cobblers that still resonate in the hearts of her family. Her culinary delights were just as memorable as her generous nature, reflecting her loving and compassionate personality. A woman of many interests, Lela enjoyed traveling and had a passion for square dancing, gardening, and do-it-yourself projects. Her creativity knew no bounds, and she put her heart into everything she did.

As a loyal wife to her late husband, Norman J. Labhart, Lela's heart shone brightest in her role as a devoted mother and compassionate grandmother. Her proudest accomplishments revolved around her family, and she reveled in watching them grow and thrive. Lela’s legacy continues through her living family: her daughter, Patricia A. (Gary) Smith; her son, Mark Labhart; her grandchildren, Karl Labhart, Kate Labhart, Jack Smith, Emma Smith; her daughter-in-law, Dana Labhart and many loving nieces. Each of them carries with them the lessons she imparted and the love she bestowed.

Lela is reunited with those she has lost, including her beloved husband, son Norman J. Labhart, Jr., parents Alma Lottes Minor and Carl Minor, and her brother Eugene Minor. Their memories will forever remain a part of the fabric of her life.

Her visitation will be held on July 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM central time, at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Lamar, IN, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, during which family and friends will gather to honor her life and remember her unwavering spirit. Lela will then be buried in the St. Peters United Church of Christ Cemetery, where her physical presence will rest but her spirit will continue to thrive within all who loved her.

Lela Ruth Labhart was a beautiful soul whose touch made the world a better place. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
