Leland Dean "Buzz" Bacon

Leland Dean "Buzz" Bacon, Jr., 64 of Battle Creek, died at Bronson Battle Creek on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He was born September 3, 1951 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Leland Dean and Mary Ann (Boone) Bacon. Buzz grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1969 graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central. He was employed for Clark Equipment Company, EPI, and Quality House Brewing Company, prior to receiving his Master's Degrees in The Arts and Social Work from Western Michigan University. He lived and worked in Battle Creek until moving to Daytona, Florida in 2005, where he was employed for a non-profit agency counseling, training and helping individuals with limited vision through rehabilitation. Due to health problems, he recently moved back to Battle Creek to be near his family. He was formerly married to Mary Frances Galloup. Surviving are his children, Brian L. Bacon of East Lansing, MI and Rebecca R. Bacon of Battle Creek; siblings, Mike (Carol) Bacon of Kalamazoo, Mary Trebilcock and Rebecca Haywood both of Battle Creek, Mark (Theresa) Bacon of Harvest, AL; and three step brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland D. Bacon; and his mother and stepfather, Mary Ann and Robert L. Brewer. Buzz volunteered with Big Brothers for two years. He enjoyed golf, music and watching sports on TV. Buzz was a man of many passions, interests and activities. Buzz greeted everyone with a smile and made time to help others. Friends will be received 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a memorial service to celebrate Buzz' life will be officiated by Deacon Al Patrick 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016.
