Leland J. Getto

Leland J. Getto, 81, of Latrobe, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born September 25, 1943, in Leechburg, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard M. Getto and Adeline L. (Freilino) Getto.
Leland was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having been honorably discharged as a Sergeant after serving during the Vietnam War. His passion in life was aviation, and he spent over 30 years as a private pilot. For many years, he also owned and operated American Aircraft Restoration based at the Akron-Canton Airport in North Canton, OH. A man of varied hobbies, Leland spent most of his leisure time revolving around his love of planes. He would spend hours building both small and large models of different aircrafts as well as remote-control planes. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and target shooting, even building his own colonial style rifles and muskets. Some of his other pastimes included wood working and baking, priding himself on making the very best cherry pie. With a tremendous sense of humor, he was an excellent and captivating storyteller who could draw his audience right into the tale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Rebecca Anderson; a son-in-law, Michael Boron; brother-in-law, Bill Flynn; and a special uncle, Moe Mozdir.
Leland is survived by his wife of 22 years, Laurene M. (McCormick) Getto, of Latrobe; one son, Michael A. Getto and his wife, Nichole, of Cape Coral, FL; one daughter, Kelly A. Boron, of Cape Coral, FL; two step-children, Thomas B. Anderson of Greensburg and Kelly E. Hudson and her husband, Todd, of Derry; ten grandchildren, Breanna, Micayla, Brenden, Bradley, Thomas, Jeffrey, Alexander, Lillian, Taylor, and Bridgette; one great-granddaughter, Mila; one sister, Bernadette Flynn, of Monroeville; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Norvelt Union Church, 2339 Mt. Pleasant Road, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666.
