Leland Trapp Obituary

Leland Ray Trapp, 93, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life February 5, 2026, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born February 22, 1932, in Marysville, Indiana, Leland was the beloved son of Raymond Albert and Mary E. Harmon Trapp.

Leland's life was one of commitment and honor, as evidenced by his service to his country as a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Stationed in Japan for two years, he proudly served his nation and carried the principles of discipline and camaraderie throughout his life. Upon returning home, Leland continued to serve his community as a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he formed lasting bonds with his fellow members.

On June 26, 1960, Leland was united in marriage with Joan M. Bickel in a beautiful ceremony in Elkhart, Indiana. Joan, his loving wife of 65 years survives him. Also surviving are his children, Kristelle (German) Cardona of Greenwood, Tamra (David) O'Keefe of Kohler, Wisconsin and Jeffery (April) Trapp of Franklin and grandchildren, Rachel (Oscar) O'Keefe Martinez, Jack O'Keefe, Corbin Trapp and Liana and Tessa Cardona. Leland was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lora Johnson.

Professionally, Leland was respected for his work in management at Cummins Engine Company, where he dedicated many years before his well-deserved retirement. His colleagues remember him as a man of great character, always willing to lend a hand or share a word of advice.

Leland was a man of many interests and talents. As a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, he found spiritual solace and community. His love for gardening and woodworking reflected his appreciation for nature and his skill in creating beauty with his hands. Leland also found joy in working on his cars, playing on the computer, and most importantly, cherishing the time he spent with his family and friends.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Asbury United Methodist Church; Pastor Nick Robinson will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the United States Air Force Ceremonial Unit. Family and friends may gather for memorial visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. The committal service will be held at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison at the convenience of the family. In memory of Leland, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home and Crematory.

"Mr. Trapp" was my in loco parentis for a time back in the eighties. I know I gave him a few of those gray hairs. He was a sweet and generous man and an all-American dad with great moral integrity. I'll always picture him at the kitchen table doing his taxes or working in his yard. Deepest condolences to Joan, Kris, Tamra, Jeff, and their families. I know he was your steadfast and loving husband and father to the end.
