Lenord "Carvel" Izatt
July 21st, 1952 ~ November 28th, 2024
- Lenord "Carvel" Izatt, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on November 28th, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Cancer surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Draper, UT on July 21st, 1952, to Lenord C. & Carma Jenkins Izatt. In his younger years, Carvel worked on the family mink ranch, and as a teen he loved to work on car and motorcycle engines. Carvel graduated from Jordan High School in May of 1970 and married Barbara in December of 1971 (later deceased). Together they enjoyed playing and singing John Denver songs and as well as participating in various church activities.
Carvel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he was very involved with the church scouting program. He also worked for the LDS Church for 12 years in Plant Operations. He served in the Utah Air National Guard, retired in 1992, then transferred to the United States Air Force Retired Reserves for a combined total of 41 years of Honorable service. Carvel worked construction for several years in the 70s and 80s, and he eventually founded Izatt Construction in the 1980's. He also did several side jobs including home remodeling and repairs, tractor work, and snow plowing to help support his family. Carvel was a "Renaissance Man", a man who had acquired profound knowledge and proficiency in several fields. You could ask him anything and most of the time he knew the answer; if he didn't, he would research it and find out. One of his favorite sayings came from his father: "You can do anything you want, all you have to do is read about it, practice, find someone older than you, and watch them do it."
Carvel started working at St. Joseph Villa in 1998 and worked there until 2008 as Director of Operations. During that time, he met his beloved wife Brenda, and on December 14th, 2001, they were married. He was her gentle giant and the love of her life. Together they enjoyed camping, off-roading, riding his motorcycle, being with their family, and spending many evenings together cuddling and binge-watching movies. Carvel continued working as Director of Operations in Skilled Facilities until he retired in 2018. He loved working with the elderly. Brenda and Carvel spent several Christmases as two of Santa's helpers, visiting many long-term care facilities as Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus. Carvel looked forward to doing that every year, and he made a great Santa.
Carvel was very skilled with his hands. He loved carving wood spirits and wood working. He had an amazing eye; he could look at a piece of wood and create beautiful faces in it. He eventually ventured into carving golf balls and various other mediums. Carvel was a collector. He collected shot glasses, key chains, pins of all kinds, chess boards, and tools. He loved to drive his John Deere Tractor. Carvel loved to camp, and he and Brenda spent many summers camping with her sisters and brothers, fishing, crafting, carving and enjoying each other's company and the company of their many grandchildren. Of everything he loved, Carvel loved his family most of all. He was an amazing listener, and he gave the best hugs. He was always there to help in any way he could, and he will be dearly missed. Carvel is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Brenda, 6 wonderful children David Izatt (Faye), Robbie Hatch (Loralee), Jodi Coffman (Jason), Heather Izatt, Nicole Hamblin (J.R.), Jeff Hatch (Jessica), sister Karlenna Deem (Richard), 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara, his parents, grandparents, brothers Eugene and Sheldon Izatt, and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the IMED Cancer Center, IHC Riverton Radiation center, and Oncologist Dr. Mark Lewis for the wonderful care they provided to Carvel. The family would also like to thank Monument Health Millcreek and Monument Health Group for their love, help and support in providing meals and flights to transport our out-of-state family to be here together during this time.
