Lenore Ulland Obituary

Lenore Ulland, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026. She was showered with love, hugs, hand holds, games, words, songs and memories by her family and close friends for the weeks leading up to her passing.

Lenore lived with her arms and heart wide open, the epitome of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. One of Lenore’s greatest legacies is her gentle, kind and loving heart that welcomed people in so earnestly and genuinely. She loved her family with every fiber of her bones.

Lenore was born on January 2, 1931, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of Clara and Ben Pladson. Lenore’s childhood was filled with hardships. By the age of 8, she lost both of her parents, left her home, and moved with her brother to live with an aunt and uncle in Hatton, ND. As a young girl, Lenore lived with resilience, hope and deep love. It's what she has breathed into her family and passed from generation to generation.

After Lenore graduated from Hatton High School in 1948, she attended Mayville State College where she earned a teaching certificate. She married Lloyd Ulland on December 30, 1951. She taught in a country school near Reynolds, ND and worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield, but found her calling as a piano teacher. For 38 years, she taught piano from her home. In fact, her piano became a permanent fixture in their home. Lenore was an active member at Peace Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, participated in women’s circles, and played the piano for many church functions. Lenore loved playing golf, watching the Twins, and cheering on Cobber basketball. She was a proud Canadian displaying maple leafs whenever she could. She loved scalloped potatoes and ham and made delicious apple crisp, chocolate chip cookies, and almond glazed cookies. In 2021, Lenore moved from Fargo to Bismarck to live closer to family. For Lenore, together was her favorite place to be.

Lenore’s legacy of love remains alive and continues with her own children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Through her son, Gary (Connie); grandchildren, Jesse (Andrea), Janelle (Mike) Ryland, Lyndon (Cassidy) Lach, and Courtney Ulvin (Dylan Matteson); her daughter, Kathy (Paul) Fraase; grandchildren John Fraase, Ben (Caroline) Fraase, Tom Fraase (Erin Januschka); her great grandchildren: Grant, Scarlett and James Ulland, Anthony and Mason Ryland, Dorothy and Alfie Fraase, and Sophie, Brynn and Jack Lach, and Oleksander and Magnus Ulvin. Through a deep friendship with Edith and Ken Jagim, Lenore’s “family” expanded with the inclusion of Roger, Ryan, Karla, Ross and Rusel who are family, not of a blood connection, but one of choice.

She will be greeted in Heaven by her husband, Lloyd, parents Ben and Clara Pladson, and siblings Boyd (Inez) Pladson, Roy (Kay) Pladson, Joyce (Forrest) Ramsay, and Gilman and Gayle Pladson.

A big thank you to the staff at Augusta Place for their wonderful care. A special little family there was created over the past four years which brought Lenore much joy, fun and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Parkway Funeral Home, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, at 10:30am. Following the funeral there will be a light lunch.

Burial will begin at 2pm at the North Dakota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations in Lenore’s memory to the following groups, the North Dakota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan and Peace Lutheran Church kitchen fund in Fargo.
