Leo Bruno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP - West 38th St. on Jan. 14, 2022.
"Owner, Lake Shore Industries"
Leo W. Bruno, of Erie, passed away on January 10, 2022 with his family by his side at AHN St. Vincent. He was born in Byrnedale, Pa, on September 19, 1932, a son of the late Frank and Rose Pulice Bruno. Survivors include his beloved wife Shirley Long Bruno, son David Bruno and wife Anne Marie of Essex Junction, VT, two daughters Cindy Swindlehurst and her husband Craig, and Barbara Jackson and her husband Jeff, both of Erie. He is also survived by his sister, Helen DiPlacido of Erie. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Rebecca Bruno her fiancé, Jeran Mondalto of Beverly, MA, and Amanda Boutin and her husband Jon of Fairfax, VT, Matthew and Amy Jackson, great grandchildren Tucker and Parker Boutin and Eliana Mondalto. Further survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by six brothers, Sam, James, Mario, Victor, Tom, Rudy and three sisters, Florence, Vera and Margaret.
As a young teen Leo loved the sound, smell and noise of Lake Shore Industries' foundry (which was at the street corner of his childhood home) - he would stand in the doorway and just watch and wait until he was old enough to get a job there. When the time came, as a young teen, he began as a floor sweeper and moved onto other positions from there. Leo then went to serve his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Sargent as a Medic. Upon discharge he returned to Lake Shore Industries where he held many positions, then Management positions, and eventually became President and Owner of the business. Leo's story is that of an American Dream achieved.
Leo truly enjoyed being a part the day-to-day operations of Lake Shore Industries. He will be greatly missed by many dedicated employees and customers.
Leo was an inspirational leader, role model and mentor for many throughout his distinguished and successful career. He was a man of great integrity with strong dedication to all he was involved with. His kindness and generosity will be long remembered.
He was also a generous blood donor – giving more than 5 gallons of blood. Leo was a member of the Siebenberger Club, The Foundryman's Society, and St. Paul's R.C. Church.
Most of all, Leo will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and cherished grandfather, who put his family above all else. His life was spent taking care of his family and he left them with many wonderful memories.
Due to Covid, private funeral services were held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Brugger Funeral Home & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street.
