Leo Joseph Chambers, 80, of Peoria, died at 11:42 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at Arcadia Care Toulon.

Born May 16, 1945, in Waukon, Iowa, to Allison and Henrietta (Liddiard) Chambers, he married Jodie Rohmann on May 25, 1967. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1998.

Leo served in the Navy and was a crash crew firefighter in Virginia while in service. He worked at Caterpillar for over 30 years, retiring in June 2002.

Leo loved his animals, playing his guitars, Johnny Cash and going out to eat with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Fred, Sharon Ann, Margaret, John Francis and William Chambers; and one nephew, Greg Bridges. Leo is survived by his two sisters, Mary Bridges and Darlene (Jim) Anstett; four nieces, Rose Bridges, Dawn Van Fossen, Michelle (Kyle) Tipsword and Allison (Jonathon) Hooper; two nephews, Poncho and Joseph Bridges; 13 great-nieces and -nephews, including Ian and Ivy; and longtime and faithful friends, Ray and Peg Shull.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery next to his wife.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to TAPS in memory of Leo's beloved dogs, especially Gizmo.
