Leo "Wayne" Downer, 89, of Rayville, Missouri passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 15, 2022. He was born on February 4, 1933 in Appleton City, Missouri to Inez (Murphy) and George Downer.
Visitation will be held at 11:00am, August 20, 2022 at Assembly of God Church, Richmond, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at noon with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
Wayne drove an ammunitions truck during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge from the Army. He continued driving 18 wheels for a living until he was into his 80s. His hobbies were raising cattle, bailing hay with his step-son, David, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Tackett), infant son Robert, daughter Vicki Romang and sons-in-law Lynn Hodges, Darrel Robb and Dewayne Hayes.
Survivors include his second wife, Beverly (Covey), daughters; Rita Hodges, Linda Robb, Connie Hayes and Jane Downer, step-daughters; Tina (Mike) Dial and Delores Kinser, step-sons; James Ballinger, David (Susan) Ballinger, Michael Ballinger, Dale (Lori) Ballinger, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Reno Ranch, 6219 Hwy T, Camden, Missouri 64017 in honor of Wayne.
