Leo Dupre Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Quinn Funeral Home - Warwick on Sep. 17, 2024.
Leo A. Dupre, Sr., 94, beloved father, brother, Pepere, uncle, friend passed away on September 11, 2024 at the Steere House in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine M. Dupre. Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of Albert and Gabrielle (Cournoyer) Dupre. Leo was the loving father of Leo A. Dupre, Jr. (Deborah), Marcel J. Lamontagne (Antoinette), Paul A. Dupre (Carol), Mary A. Hach (Stephen), and the late Diane A. Dabicci (Greg). Loving Pepere of Keri, Matthew, Richard, Sarah, Jeannie, Donnie and Alexandra. He is survived by 11 great grandchildren. Leo was the brother of Noella Maynard, Dolores Galvin (Joseph), Vivian Raposa (Gerald) and the late Robert Dupre.
Leo said, "The most important thing in my life was my marriage to my wife, Cathy. Without her I can be sure my life and the children we have had would never have been such a happy and fulfilling one." They were married 71 years.
He held many jobs in his lifetime including Providence Electric Company, Sears, Benny's, Collyer Wire Company and Rawson Manufacturing in Connecticut. He semi-retired in 1982 and lived in St. Petersburg, FL and would spend the summers in Connecticut at the campground enjoying family time, canoeing, and the outdoors.
He had a love for family, travel, camping, boating, water skiing, cars, walking, reading, country music, and crossword puzzles. He noted some of his best vacations were a 50th anniversary cruise with children to Bermuda, camping in Maine every year, and the 1967 EXPO in Montreal, Canada. As an example for his love of cars, in 2016 he listed each car he owned since the age of 18 by year, make and model, 33 in total.
Leo's life was a gift to those who knew him. He will be missed. His visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 10-11am with a service at 11am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Steere House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Providence, RI.

Watching him run against the wind of the 1938 hurricane to get home from school. Then watching with him from across the street to see the church steeple on Cranston street come crashing down. The church later became a cold storage facility.
