Leo J. Finnegan Jr.

Leo J. Finnegan, Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL, formerly of Wharton, NJ passed away on December 17, 2024 following a brief illness.
He was born and raised in Wharton NJ and graduated from St. Mary's School, Morris Hills HS, and Seton Hall University.
Leo volunteered his time in several community-related positions, including serving as a coach and President of the Wharton Area Little League, Treasurer of the Hill Top AC, and was a member of the Lost Lake Men's Golf League. Leo was elected for multiple terms on the Wharton Borough Council and served as the Mayor of Wharton.
A veteran of the US Army, Leo was a member of the William J. Hocking Post 91 American Legion.
Survived by his wife of 34 years; Cristine (Van Keuren), sister; Rose (Larry), brothers; Andre (Barbara) and Kevin (Karen). Three sons and six grandchildren; Kevin (Kimberly) Mary and Padraic, Brian (Janet) Brendan and Kate, Padraic (Erin) Sean and Erin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Leo worked as an Accountant his entire career. He started at Mack Truck and then moved onto Warner Lambert, where he worked for 30 years retiring as Director of International Accounting in 1998.
An avid sports fan, Leo was a season ticket holder for the NY Jets and NY Rangers and spent a lifetime rooting for the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers. The only thing he loved more than a victory by his teams was a good pre-game tailgate!
Leo always had a dog by his side with a particular soft spot for the PBGV breed (Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen).
A viewing will be held 4-8pm on Friday December 27th, 2024 at Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10am on Saturday December 28th at St. Mary's RC Church, Wharton. Interment to follow, St. Mary's Cemetery.
