Leo Edward Kersey, son of Harry and Adabelle (Hupp) Kersey was born on June 9, 1933 in Carrollton, Iowa and died September 8, 2025 peacefully at the age of 92.
Known as "Odie" to many, Leo grew up in Greene County, Iowa. He went to St. Mary's Catholic School in Grand Junction. In May of 1950, while working in Lawrence, Kansas, Leo married the love of his life, Blanch. They settled in Grand Junction, Iowa, where they were married for over 70 years and raised four children: Diane, Patty, Tommy, and Mary Ann.
Over the years, Leo took great pride in his work. He helped build highways, sold and delivered hybrid seed corn, and drove trucks. For 35 years, he dedicated himself to the Rippey Farmers Co-op, where he earned the trust and respect of local farmers. His infamous seed jacket collection was also well known, he was rarely seen without one.
Away from work, he enjoyed sale auctions, camping, woodworking, and traveling. His hard work at the co-op allowed him and his wife, Blanch, to take memorable trips to places like Germany and Jamaica, and they also spent a few winters in Texas, which they both treasured.
More than anything, Leo cherished time with others. His home was a gathering place for children, great-grandchildren, friends, and anyone he could befriend. People turned to him for his support and easy humor. He loved good company, a friendly chat, and a drink on the porch with whoever happened to visit.
Leo is survived by his children: Diane Kafer of Grand Junction, Patty Kersey of Boone, Tommy (LuAnn) Kersey of Des Moines, and Mary Ann Miller of Grand Junction. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind seven siblings, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanch; his parents, Harry and Adabelle; his siblings, Marie Moran and Robert Kersey; and his son-in-laws William (Bill) Kafer and Gary Miller.
A private family graveside service for Leo will be held on September 10, 2025, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa.
