It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Leo Sims. Leo departed this life on November 11th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Born on August 4th, 1951, in his beloved village of Harlem, New York City, Leo was a bright light in our family. As the son of Gordon and Anna Chiclana-Sims, he took on the role of protector and mentor to his sister, Anna, until he was struck with a life-altering condition. Leo suffered from Grand Mal Epilepsy seizures, a condition that stole away the normalcy of his seven-year-old life and kept a grip on him until his passing.
In his good moments, Leo's warmth and generosity were felt by everyone who knew him.
Leo was passionate about his beloved Harlem, something that he shared with his family. His father would remind him never to abandon his hometown, "Stay and fix!" was the battle cry. Whether he was at his pop's grocery store or trying to sneak into the Apollo Theatre, his joy and enthusiasm were infectious. His laughter and smile could brighten the darkest of days.
Growing up, for his brothers and sister, Leo was our partner in crime, sometimes our confidant, and many times our most significant rival. All of the time, though, we were all positioned to give him a helping hand and an abundance of love and forgiveness. Trust me, his siblings can spend days trading 'Leo' stories!!!
Leo is survived by his brothers, Allen Gordon Sims, Lewis Sims, Gordon Elery Sims, and Tyrone Sims, as well as his sister, Anna Sims-Phillips. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and the entire Sims and Chiclana clan. His caregivers at Complete Care at Woodlands were his favorite people.
Leo, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will never fade from our lives. Rest peacefully, dear brother.
You gave no one a last farewell, nor even said goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it, only God knows why.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
We will meet again someday, I know, in a better place.
I thank God that He made you our brother while you were here on earth.
Amen.
