New Iberia - Leon E. Roy III, 64, died at the Flannery Oaks Guest House on May 13, 2025. Born on June 17, 1960, to the late Leon Roy, Jr., and Rosalie “Busky” Broussard Roy, he was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in New Iberia, Louisiana.

Leon graduated from New Iberia Catholic High School, Class of 1978. He earned his bachelor’s degree from LSU in business administration (1983), juris doctorate from Tulane Law School (1986), and Master of Laws from Boston University School of Law (1987)

Leon married Phyllis Patin Richard on May 24, 1986 (2003). After law school and a brief stint in Boston, MA, Leon worked for the law firm of Deutsch Kerrigan in New Orleans before becoming Partner at the law firm of Roy, Forrest and Lopresto, A Professional Law Corporation, where he spent the majority of his law career.

During his time at LSU, Leon was a proud member of Theta Xi fraternity where he made several lifelong friendships. Leon also served on the Board of Directors for State National Bank and was an active member of the Louisiana Bar Association and New Iberia Rotary Club where he made significant contributions to Iberia Parish. He also had taught classes at SLCC after practicing law.

Leon was a fervent reader and a passionate lover of life, enjoying each day and moment like it was his last. Leon was well known for his wit and dry sense of humor, which allowed him to make friends with everyone he met. After moving to New Orleans and subsequently to Baton Rouge to be closer to his son, “I.V.”, Leon kept in touch with his many friends via social media where his wit and humor were on full display. Aside from social media, Leon enjoyed traveling, golf, and hunting. In his later years, Leon enjoyed discussing sports betting and his genealogical history, which he had a great memory of.

Leon also enjoyed attending football games (Tulane games when IV was little and LSU games after IV attended LSU). Leon and IV tried to make at least one road game a year where they created many memories together.

He is survived by his loving son, Leon Roy IV (“IV”); his loving siblings, Sally Roy Bernard (Scott), North Carolina; Thomas Roy (Jessica); Robert Roy; and Clara Roy Strohe (Tommy), Lafayette; and numerous loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and godchildren.

Leon was predeceased in death by his parents, Leon E. Roy, Jr., and his mother, Rosalie “Busky” Broussard Roy.

A Memorial Service will be held for Leon Roy III on Saturday, May 17, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia, LA, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. and funeral service officiated by Father Blanda beginning at 11:00 a.m. A rosary will precede the mass at 10:15 a.m.

The family would like to thank Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge for providing such a comfortable, supportive home for Leon over the last few months. Flannery Oaks, including the many friends he made while living there, extended loving, personal care and deep friendships that both IV, and Leon’s family, appreciated deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider donations in Leon’s memory to Bridge House treatment facility, 4150 Earhart Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70125
