Leon D. LaFountain, Sr., age 87, affectionately known as "Danny" of East Freetown, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026 at his daughter's home in Lakeville, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary E. (Reynolds) LaFountain. They were married for sixty three years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of Leon and Emelie "Bertha" (Protin) LaFountain.
He was raised on Pine Grove Poultry Farm, where early mornings and hard work were simply a way of life. Growing up on the farm taught him responsibility, dedication, grit, and the pride that comes from building something with your own hands. By his mid-teens, the same determination led him to start his own business, LaFountain Excavating, a company built from the ground up with sweat, skill, and vision. Danny took great pride in his work. Outside of work, he found freedom on his Harley where the open road brought him joy. At home, he could often be found in the garage, piecing things together and making them work in his own way, a little like MacGyver using his ingenuity, creativity, and whatever he had on hand. He had a natural mechanical mind and a deep love for fixing, building, and improving anything he touched.
Besides his wife Mary, he leaves his children Leon "Danny" LaFountain, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Berkley and Deborah M. Veary and her husband John of Lakeville; a sister Carol Bailey and her husband Lin of East Freetown; a daughter in law Cindi LaFountain of New Bedford; a sister in law Judith Ann LaFountain of Acushnet; six grandchildren and their partners Adam Veary and wife Courtney, Tara LaFountain, Andrew Veary and Taylor Truett, Tyler LaFountain, Hannah Veary and Thomas Delano & Hunter LaFountain, two great grandchildren, Grayson Eddleston and Bodi Delano, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Dale LaFountain and brother of the late Albert and his late wife Patricia Ann LaFountain and Robert LaFountain.
All are welcome to attend Danny's Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Lakeville Eagles, 217 County Street, Lakeville, MA 02347
