Aiken, SC- Leona Grace Volk Frontroth, 91, died Saturday, March 9, 2024 at home with her beloved caregivers.
Born in Corry, PA, Leona “Lee” Frontroth was the daughter of the late Burt and Edyth Volk. In 1954 Leona married Ronald “Ron” Frontroth and moved to Aiken, SC where she worked as a secretary at the Savannah River Site. After starting a family, Leona returned to Augusta University where she earned a degree in accounting and became a CPA. Leona was hired by Cherry, Beckert, Holland accounting firm in Augusta, GA where she worked as an accountant for over 25 years. She retired to enjoy life as a grandmother. Leona was best known by her co-workers at CB&H for her lake parties and “magic blankets”. Residents of College Acres Public Works District will remember Leona as the District’s accountant for many years. Leona was also a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon in the 70’s and started the newsletter AIMS.
Leona’s passions were her family, traveling with her sisters, Atlanta Braves Baseball, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, auctioning and antiquing and a definite bookworm. She was never without a good book.
She is predeceased by her husband, Ronald Frontroth, a sister, Betty Rizzo, Erie, PA, and a brother, Ron (Mae) Volk, Aiken, SC.
Survivors include two sons; Stuart (Kala) Frontroth, Waterloo, SC and Brion (Kelly) Frontroth, Aiken, SC, one grandchild; Victor Frontroth, Columbia, SC, and a sister; Marion Parmenter, Northeast PA, and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday afternoon, March 14th in Graniteville Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 14th from 5 until 7 o’clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to South Aiken Presbyterian's Boy Scout Troop 146, 1711 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
