Leonard Earl Cornelius, 90, was called to heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 16, 2025 while surrounded by his loved ones in Oneida.
He was born in Oneida on April 10, 1935 to Anderson Cornelius and Lillian (Wheelock) Cornelius.
He graduated from Freedom High School and went on to Haskell Institute in Lawrence KS for masonry. Leonard joined the US Marines in July of 1956 as a rocket gunner and was a bugler in the drum and bugle core. Upon honorable discharge in July of 1959 as Lance Corporal of the US Marine Corp.
Leonard worked at Allen Bradley as a machinist for 32 years and also attended MATC part time for auto mechanics, small engine repair, woodworking, and welding. He returned to Oneida upon retirement.
He was an avid bow hunter until the age of 75. Leonard was constantly busy with welding, woodworking, general repair, and Korean karate. He was an Oneida singer for most of his life.
Leonard is survived by his blended family; former wife, Patsy Vanoyen of Milwaukee, and their daughter, Gail Cornelius of Green Bay and son Daniel (Cheryl) Cornelius of Green Bay. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Dawn Langhini (Milwaukee), Kim Novak (Milwaukee) and Brian Novak (Marinette). Siblings, Clarence Cornelius, Franklin Cornelius, Josephine (Tom) Daebler, and Eleanor Bailey, and in laws Connie (Steve) Danforth of Oneida, Sandy Schuyler of Oneida, Rana Schuyler of Green Bay, and Annette Schuyler of KS along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Lillian (Wheelock) Cornelius and his wife, Yvonne Joyce (Schuyler) Cornelius and his brothers, Melvin, Lincoln, Harrison, Benjamin, Sandra Cornelius, Deloris Skenandore and Ellamay Meeham.
The family would like to thank Julie and the rest of the staff from Unity Hospice along with Kim Novak, Connie Danforth, Sandra Schuyler, and Lindsay Szukalski for their loving care and compassion for Leonard.
Friends may call at the Oneida Methodist Church on Saturday, June 21st 10:30am with the Oneida Hymn Singers beginning at 11:30am. Service will begin at 12:00pm with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Ryan Funeral Home in De Pere is assisting the family.
