Leonard Cupery Obituary
Leonard James Cupery, age 88, of Cambria, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Randolph Health Services.
Len was born February 17, 1936 in Friesland, the son of Tuenis and Jennie (Gaastra) Cupery. Len attended Friesland and East Friesland grade schools and graduated from Cambria-Friesland High School in 1953. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. On August 8, 1958 he was united in marriage to Doris Miller at First Reformed Church in Friesland, and they were married for 66 years. A dedicated member of the First Reformed Church in Friesland, Len served as an elder and deacon. Len had a profound love for music, with a particular fondness for “big band” melodies and piano tunes. This passion for music also translated into a love for dancing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, always eager for new experiences. He took great pride in taking care of their farm and growing trees, planting over 94,000 trees. He also had a zest for adventure, whether it was flying an airplane or hitting the slopes for downhill skiing, and was blessed with an abundance of wonderful friends. Above all, Len treasured the time spent with his family, grandchildren and helping others.
Len is survived by his wife, Doris Cupery of rural Cambria; a son, Michael Cupery of Julian, CA; a daughter, Kay Hubbard of Hartland, WI; two granddaughters: Ava and Liv Hubbard; a brother, Ted (Pat) De Jager of Cambria; a step-sister, Sylvia Wiersma of Friesland; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Len was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Margaret; a sister, Mary (De Jager) Homan; two step-sisters: Nellie (De Jager) Herringa and Wilma (De Jager) Westra; and two step-brothers: Walter and Harry De Jager.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Friesland Community Church in Friesland with Pastor Darrin Vant Hoff officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:30 until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Friesland Community Church.
