Leonard H. DeLaughder, age 76, passed away on February 6, 2026. He was born June 8, 1949 in Junction City, Kansas, to parents, Hugh Leonard and Estella Blanche (Burns) DeLaughder. He traveled with his parent as an Army child, but loved his small town life.
Leonard engaged in various trades, from managing Midwest Security K-9 Center in Edwardsville, Kansas, where he trained dogs - obedience and guard work, to his long career as a commercial painter, including working on the film Article 99 (1992). He is perhaps best known for his 12 years driving horse drawn carriages on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, as the original Frosty the Snowman during the Christmas season to the delight of thousands of children and families. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, stock car racing, riding horses and being with family. He loved Westerns and was an avid fan of The Duke, John Wayne. He especially loved time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as he was always a kid at heart.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hugh, John, Tomas, and James Delaughder; Arthur (Bud), Norman, and David Williams; and son-in-law Kevin Howard.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marsha (Willsey) DeLaughder. They have been together for 58 years. Sister Thelma Williams of Belton, Missouri; brother Harold DeLaughder (Vicky) of Shawnee, Kansas; children Kenneth DeLaughder J.D., Esq. (Jessica) of Wichita, Kansas, Kristy Howard of Iola, Dawn Streeter (Jimmie) of Iola, Dusty DeLaughder (Rhonda) of Hidden Valley Lakes, Kansas; and honorary sons Shane Durkin of Fort Scott, Kansas and Dustin Stevenin of Colony, Kansas. Leonard was blessed to have 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His memory is a blessing.
The family will greet friends at a Memorial Visitation for Leonard 1:00 - 5:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas. A time of sharing and remembrance for Leonard will start at 2:00 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to A.C.A.R.F., and can be left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Services.
