Leonard "Len" Munroe Ewert, (February 2, 1937-May 14, 2024), passed away with his family by his side after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was born to Herman and Martha (Goertz) Ewert in a farm house outside of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, Canada with his twin brother Lewis. In March 1948, with his father, brother, sisters Eileen and Lillian along with his Aunt Linda moved to Reno. In 1952, Len started working part-time for Gardner Automotive (Allied Automotive). He joined the Nevada Air Guard in 1954 and graduated from Reno High School in 1955. After graduation, Len worked full time at Allied Automotive, resulting in what would become a 50 plus year career. In 1979, he formed a partnership with Allied opening an affiliated company; Allied Auto Parts in Twin Falls, ID. The store was relocated to Carson City in 1980, where Len co-owned and managed the operation until his retirement. Len never viewed his kindness nor perceived work ethic as an exception, it was
just the way he was. In addition to knowing all about auto related parts, Len was innovative. He had the ability to invent and build devices that improved his quality of life. An exceptional mechanic with a do-it-yourself attitude and abilities, Len never required the assistance of professional repair services.
In 1956 Len married his forever love, Sandra Baroli. They were childhood sweethearts. They had two daughters, Katherine and Deborah. During their 68-year marriage, Len and Sandy enjoyed numerous hunting/camping trips, water and snow skiing and traveling, especially to Arizona and Canada with his siblings. He also loved the time he spent with his children, grandchildren
and great granddaughters. Special family bonds and memories were formed at their Eagle Lake cabin where good times were shared with friends. We all loved our Papa so! He treasured his many dogs, especially his Vizslas. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lew, sisters Mildred, Eileen and Lillian. Len is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters Katherine Achurra
(Ken), Deborah Baldini (Michael), grandchildren Marc Achurra (Melissa), Alicia Roney (Adam) and Janelle Smith (Branden) and his treasured great granddaughters; Jaylin and Jessica Roney, Donatella and Monalisa Smith. In addition, he is survived by his sisters-in-law Judy DeAngeli and Beverly Ewert as well as numerous nephews and nieces whom he dearly loved.
The family would like to thank the staff of Compassion Care Hospice for their care and support especially his nurse/case manager Marina Richeson, who took such good care of him the last weeks of his life. A celebration of life will be held at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave, Reno on June 15, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
