Leonard Francis Hirner

Leonard Francis Hirner, age 56, of St. David, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Leonard was born September 5, 1969 in Peoria, a son to Francis and Barbara (Kirkpatrick) Hirner. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his craft. A member of Local Union 231, he spent many years laying concrete and firmly believed in the value of a strong work ethic. He was known for showing up, putting in the effort, and doing the job right. Outside of work, Leonard found his greatest peace in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing and appreciated any opportunity to be outside. Some of his happiest moments were spent enjoying nature, unwinding with friends, and embracing the nightlife when time allowed. Above all, Leonard cherished time with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and valued the moments spent together, whether big or small. Leonard will be remembered for his strength, his dedication to hard work, his love of the outdoors, and the pride he took in his family and friendships.
Survivors include three children: Elizabeth Matheny of Havana, IL, Hannah Hirner of Farmington, IL and Michael (Jamie) Hirner of Monterey, IL; seven grandchildren; and two brothers: Anthony Hirner of Peoria and Ralph Hirner of Elizabethtown, PA.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation of at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Friday, January 9, 2025 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Preferred memorials in Leonard's memory made be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses.
