Leonard “Lenny” Allan Swain, 77, of Jamestown, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Born on October 3, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the tenth and youngest child of the late Ethel Seagren Swain and the late Raymond Swain.

Leonard was a mountain of a man who lived life to the fullest. He was an adventurer, world traveler, and an extraordinary family man. He loved his home in Jamestown and was known to explore miles of the Francis Marion Forest.

Leonard was a proud graduate of Bishop England High School, Class of 1965, leading their Varsity basketball team to win the State Championship. He went on to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the Citadel, Class of 1969. He wore his Citadel class ring every day with love and pride for the school. Always a true American patriot, he served in the United States National Guard.

As an accomplished businessman, he shared his expertise internationally by dedicating many years to the United States Peace Corps. His first post was in Lithuania, teaching business skills. Later, he was posted in North Macedonia, teaching English to children.

One of his proudest accomplishments was serving at the 2024 Citadel Medical Camp in Nairobi, Kenya. He quickly learned how to care for the needs of patients and often talked about the experience being one of the best times of his life. He truly had a lifelong calling to serve and help others.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ethel Swain; brothers: Robert, Donald, Raymond, David, Gary, Carl; and sister, Ethel Backus.

Leonard is survived by his children: son, Jeffrey and wife, Elaine; son, Benjamin Swain and wife, Sarah; daughter, Kristina Swain and fiancé, David Carlin; stepsons: Evaldas Dragunas, Irmantas Dragunas and fiancé, Chad Rushmeyer; and grandchildren: Patrick, Lauren “Kelsey”, Rachel, and Evan.

Leonard is also survived by his brother, James Swain and his sister, Nancy Jager.

A funeral mass will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a family and friend reception at the Gold Bug Island, 1560 Ben Sawyer Blvd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United States Peace Corps/
