Obituary of Leonard Dennis Meagher
Leonard Dennis Meagher was born to Leonard R. and Mary H. Meagher in Rapid City SD. On Sunday January 18th 1942. One of his earliest memories was of his father leaving for the war which he remembered vividly and reminisced about often. He attended public schools and the Mennonite school in Nebraska. After school he married his first wife Kathy Castle and joined the United States Navy where they welcomed four children. In the Navy he became an aviation machinist mate, powerplant mechanic. He served on the USS Kittyhawk CVA 63 being assigned to attack squadron VA-113. He reached the Rank of Petty Officer second class before being honourably discharged. After the navy he worked as a heavy diesel mechanic in the Midwest before moving to Anchorage Alaska. This is where he met his second wife Donna Ekstrom and her daughter Missy. They eventually settled in Seattle WA, having four more children. He worked as a heavy diesel mechanic until he was medically retired in 1997. In 2005 Donna suffered a stroke, he cared for her until her death on Friday March 19th 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna, Grandparents, Parents, sisters Sharon, Penny, Pat, Cathy, his two sons Greg and Steven Meagher. He is survived by his brothers Ken, Richard, children Jeffery, Denise, Marylynn, James, Leonard, Kevin, Deleana, Daniel, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He passed quietly on February 18th 2024.
Viewing to be held at Edwards Memorial Chapel on Monday March 25th 2024 from 3:00 pm to 5:00pm. 11020 South Tacoma Way, Lakewood Washington 98499. Memorial service to be held at 10:00 am at the Coalridge Mennonite Church, 108 Longfellow RD, Dagmar Montana 59219. Internment to take place at 3:00 pm Grace Cemetery, Fisk Street, Wildrose North Dakota, 58795 on Saturday March 30th 2024.
