Leonard John Schrandt, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at Perham Living in Perham, Minnesota
Leonard was born to Herman and Veronica (Boltz) Schrandt on March 3, 1933, in Frazee, Minnesota. He was baptized at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford, MN where he also attended school. After his father's death, Leonard's family moved to Frazee where he continued to attend school. After graduation, Leonard enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean conflict.
On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Doreen Johnson at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, and they enjoyed 63 years together. They lived in Frazee where they raised their two daughters, Kathy and Mary. Leonard and Doreen owned the L.B. Hartz store for many years until retiring from the grocery business in 1995. Customer service was his calling, and he enjoyed meeting the needs of all of his customers-extending credit when needed, making house deliveries, taking the time to visit, and sneaking Hershey bars into packages if there was a child involved.
Leonard served on the Frazee Fire Department for 29 years, serving 19 of those years as the assistant chief. He was involved in the Frazee Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and, along with Doreen was a 4-H leader for the Burlington Cubs 4-H Club. He loved following the high school activities of his kids and all the kids that visited the Hartz store. His favorite pastime was playing cards, and he was hard to beat. He also loved to fish, go for drives, visit family in Kenosha, and he loved to shovel and had the cleanest sidewalk in town!
In 2023, Leonard moved into Perham Living where they truly made him part of their family and provided the best care.
He is survived by his daughters: Kathleen (Paul) Calmus and Mary (Bruce) Anderson, his brothers: Paul and Robert, Kenosha, WI, his stepsister: Mary Jane Thompson, sisters-and brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers: Donald, Leroy, James, and Thomas, Sister: Virginia, his mother-and father-in-law: Melvin and Gladys Johnson, Brother-in-law Duane Johnson, and stepfather: Norbert Lorsung.
