Leonard Michael "Mike" Shortnacy was born July 31, 1955 in Dallas, Texas and passed from this life peacefully at Foothill Farm surrounded by family on July 30, 2024.
Mike was a Jesus loving child of God! He loved sharing his faith and was often heard telling anyone who would stand still long enough, "I love Jesus Christ!" Mike took pride in his business, "Mike's Gentle Moving Company", his farm in southeast Dallas, and all things hot rods and motorcycles. His love for his family and friends was immeasurable, but being "Daddy" and "Papaw" were his most coveted titles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Burton Shortnacy, Jr.; his sister, Janet Leigh Shortnacy; and his grandparents, Leonard Sr. & Leola Shortnacy and Ralph & Dura Young.
Mike is survived by his mother, Charlotte Morgan; his brother, Gregory Shortnacy; his children, Shane Stone, Haleigh Wages and husband Chris, Lexi Anderson and husband Zane, and Josey Ashley; his grandchildren, Landon, Alisia, Olivia, Ashtyn, Brynlee, Clayton, Brensyn, Preston, Brooklee, Everleigh, Hazeleigh, and Blayklee; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will have visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of Mike's life will be at 2:00pm on Friday, August 2, 2024 also in Byrum Chapel with graveside services immediately following in Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster.

My first memory of Mike is when me and Bobby and my brother-in-law and my sister went out to his house when he lived in the Red oak DeSoto area he had two monkeys one was hilga and one was Hank well he sold us he'll go and brought her to us in a dog kennel a couple of days later and after that it was just like a brother and sister love for us All in the family he was such a great guy I will never forget all the times we spent together and done things together and him visiting at the house and Devin always saying burn off burn off when he would drive down cannot believe it was Mike that had the latest so soon it is really grabbed my heart with grief he will surely be missed in love always

I 'ed Mike's voice. He had a deep voice and huge smile. You could be in a crowd and hear him and know exactly who it was. Mike was a great friend to Me. - Stefanie Dunn

I remember when Me & Bobby first met we would go to Mike's house every morning and Mike would have my coffee made and ready each morning. We would set and talk and they would smoke cigarettes. We never dreamed how special them day would end up being. Sometimes the little things in life ends up being the huge things in Life. When he got diagnosed with cancer. I would say Mike wake up each day and say I know I'm going to die but today not the day. He told me more times then one (with his deep voice) Stefanie I'm glad you told me to say that because each morning when I wake up I pray then I say just that " i know im going to die but today isn't the day " But when we got the call at 1:14 am I was devastated because I knew his life on earth was over but his Life in Heaven just began. No more sickness and no more pain. I know he had such a zeal for life. He accomplished big things. He was a warrior for God. He ran a very successful company. He had lots of friends. He looked half his age. He loved his motorcycle. He loved vets. I'd guess red was probably his favorite color. He loved his family. He's daughters are so beautiful they should be models. He's son was so tough that I remember him breaking up fights at Neon cowboys. Mike lived a full life. He said this road been a good one. He was so organized that he was making plans and doing things right up till the end. But most importantly he was a child of God. He loved his church his preacher his family and friends. So if you believe in Jesus Christ and except him as your personal savior then you will go to Heaven and that will be a testimony of what seed Mike planted on earth. Let's make Mike as proud of Us as we are Him. Mike you are now Glory Bound. I will miss you deeply. Love Stefanie Dunn

Well it's a sad day even though I know your Heaven bound. I really don't know where to start we had so many good memories and fun times. We would go awhile and not see each other or even talk but when we would run into each other it was like we had never not kept in touch. We would random call each other and catch up on everything and everyone. You just can't replace a Best friend and your death has been a huge loss to me but what a huge gain to the man upstairs. You took pride in everything from your property, to your business, your appearance your vehicles and your faith in Jesus. Just over a week ago having a party at your house to let your family and friends know how special they all was. What an amazing man and testimony you are to everyone that had the privilege to have YOU in their life. So when I couldn't my blessings and talk to God I will thank him for allowing You to be a part of my life. Not everyone has a true friend that's more like a brother but we did. We would call each other Brothers by another mother. I'm thankful for All fun times we've shared throughout the years I will always remember you Man. I was really lucky to have such a true friend like You Mike. You made everyone Proud of all you accomplished in Life. I know you will look down even if we don't see you or hear you I know you be watching. Love you Brother and I will miss You. But I do believe in Jesus and what really matters in the end is that I will see You again in Heaven. So this is not Goodbye but instead it's I will see you later. Love you, Bobby Dunn
