On January 24, 2022, Leonard Leathers Stewart, age 81, of McCandless, beloved husband of the late Susan Bantly Stewart, passed away peacefully in his home of nearly 45 years surrounded by his family. He is survived by his children: Jack (Sharon) Stewart of Seven Fields, PA, Andrew B. (Kristine) Stewart of Tipp City, OH, and Stephanie Messer of McCandless Twp. Leonard is also survived by his sister, Sally Burns of Charlotte, NC. Leonard was blessed with many grandchildren: Scott, Daniel and Matthew Stewart, Alyssa (Nicholas) Saranas, Ian and Lydia Stewart, Annie, Stewart and Reed Messer; and one great-grandson Andrew W. Saranas. The son of Emery Stewart and Martha Leathers, Leonard was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 26, 1940. Raised in Brookville, PA Leonard spent his youth playing basketball at the local YMCA, spending summers at Lake Chautauqua, and working at the family's car dealership. After losing his father at the age of 10, he discovered a natural talent for golf which developed into a true "love of the game". Leonard played golf with his friends and family throughout his life. His ability as a competitive golfer eventually took him to the University of North Carolina where he played golf and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He went on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where he was awarded his juris doctor (J.D.) degree. Upon graduation, Leonard and his wife Susan settled permanently in McCandless Township, where they raised their family. While Leonard loved the game of golf and was a successful attorney, his wife and children were most important to him. In his golden years after the death of his wife, despite his declining health, he continued to be a resource for his family by listening and providing sage advice and counsel. Throughout his life he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a good neighbor, a consummate professional and a true gentleman. Leonard and Susan lived their lives together in love and with a profound sense of blessing and gratitude, modeling Christian virtue and grace. They will both be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway on February 26, 2022 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131. https://www.parkinson.org.
