Leopoldo Ruiz Obituary

Leo spent much of his life in New York, where he wove countless cherished memories. As a Merchant Marine, he found his calling on the open waters, a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the sea. His heart, however, always anchored him to the people he loved and the simple joys of life. Whether it was enjoying dates with his beloved wife Rosa Melendez at City Island in the Bronx or immersing himself in the melodies of his favorite music from the comfort of his car, Leo embraced every moment with warmth and enthusiasm.
A man of faith, Leo was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx, where he found community and solace. His generosity and infectious happiness were felt by all who knew him, and he was always ready with a helping hand and a kind word.
Leo is preceded in death by his loving parents, Maria and Leopoldo Ruiz, as well as his brother Ismael Ruiz and sister Rosa Ruiz. His legacy continues through his loving wife, Rosa Melendez, and his children: daughters Rosa Ruiz, Maria Ruiz, Roselyn Ruiz-Lipsey and son-in-law Paul Lipsey; and Naralyn Ortega; and brother Rafael Ruiz. He was a proud grandfather to Jeslyn Ruiz, Kiaralyn Lipsey, Jorel Lipsey, Amialyn Lipsey, Dennis Delvalle, Angel Robles, Erica Robles, Sirrena Young, Virginia Gotay, Angelic Gotay, and Cianna Ruiz, as well as a cherished great-grandfather. Leopoldo's memory will also be carried on by his nieces, nephews, and a loving extended family.
Leo's life was a testament to the power of joy, music, and love. His spirit will forever resonate in the laughter of his descendants and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Service is to be held on August 22nd, 2025 at 11:00am, St. Josephs Catholic Church 512 Buckroe Ave, Hampton VA 23664 the services will also be live streamed on the churches facebook page. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Leopoldo, please visit our Tree Store.
