I am shocked and saddened at hearing of Leroy's passing. He was one year older than me, but we played Junior High and High School football together. I used to go to the school after hours and visit with him, his brothers, and his Dad as his Father was the school custodian. Leroy once scored the only and winning touchdown for the La Vernia Bears. The other team was backed up on their goal line and Leroy, as a defensive lineman, got their ball and ran it into the endzone for a touchdown. We failed on the extra point but won the game 6-0. I worked with Ernest and Willie at WATCO Tanks. I spent a lot of time with Jessie coon-hunting and running around La Vernia. They all were good boys, who became good men. Leroy was a very fine person, and I am proud to have known him and his family and saddened to hear that God has called him up.
